The Spanish government is preparing to regulate the issue of online casino games in the country, where there is a legal hole about this matter. This announcement comes by specific request of ONCE (the Spanish National Organization for the blind), after a meeting held between the president of this institution, Miguel Carballeda, and Minister Mariano Fernández Bermejo.
In the meeting, ONCE’s president explained the need to fill the legal gap about this issue, specially referring to raffles and the usual games that can be found on the streets, but taking into account the whole gambling picture, composed by the games available in established houses but also those played online.
Andrés Ramos, member of the coupon defense platform and general secretary of Unidad Progresista (UP), ONCE’s government group, declared: “From our platform we ask the state to regulate online and electronic gambling which are operated through mobile phones and where the game consists on sending a text. We make this request because the current situation is damaging all gambling operators and the treasury and because we believe that many children are using mobile phones to participate in the games without any regulations”.
Among the reasons argued to accelerate this legislation, one of the most highlighted ones was the fact that the bets made via electronic means do not generate economic profit for the country, since they do not pay taxes or deal with employment obligations.
